Occupational Therapist, Seating Program - 1 position

Salary Range: $40.36 - $56.30 /hour


A challenging and exciting opportunity exists to work in a collaborative interprofessional environment delivering occupational therapy services to rehabilitation patients in a specialized rehabilitation setting.

This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who wants to be on a team of Rehabilitation Practitioners who are considered leaders in the delivery of rehabilitation care and to actively participate in improving the outcomes of the patients we serve and to the health care system as a whole.

The Adult Wheelchair and Seating Program provides wheelchair and seating services (direct and consultation) to those clients with specialized to complex wheelchair/seating needs of the outpatient population in Ontario, and within Parkwood Institute.

This may include clients with specialized to complex postural deformities and/or progressive conditions, clients who are at high risk for developing pressure injuries or have existing pressure management issues related to wheelchair/seating and/or clients who require high end technology such as power positioning technology or alternative drive controls.

As one of the therapists on the Seating Program, you will work with a variety of teams from inpatient and outpatient programs at Parkwood Institute Main Building and from the community, therefore flexibility and organizational skills are essential. The Seating Program has a strong commitment to maintain and contribute to the advancement of clinical practice in the fields of wheelchair and seating and pressure management by remaining current in and contributing to evidence-based practice through informal and formal educational opportunities and publications.



Essential Qualifications

  • Valid registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Current ADP authorizer with recent experience authorizing manual and power wheelchairs and positioning devices (seating) for these mobility devices
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Demonstrated understanding of ADP Central Equipment Pool policies and procedures for prescription of this equipment
  • Excellent collaborative, communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex health conditions, related co-morbidities and secondary complications
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in an interprofessional team and independently
  • Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to varying caseload needs
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate evidence into clinical practice, including outcome measures
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a role where wheelchair/seating assessment and prescription is part of the role accountability, including: power positioning technology, custom seating systems and/or customized pre-fabricated seating, and custom fabricated seating components
  • Experience in rehabilitation of diagnostic groups where wheelchairs meet their primary mobility needs
  • Experience in the preparation of teaching materials, in teaching OT students and presenting at local, national and international conferences
  • Current CPR certification and AED training
  • Demonstrated knowledge with program evaluation and/or quality improvement
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset

As an employee of St Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
