Full Time
Salary Range: $61.50 - $79.75 /hour


The Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care is seeking a psychologist who would like to be part of a successful clinical program. Under the framework of the Criminal Code of Canada, and the Ontario Review Board, we are able to provide excellent psychiatric care to a vulnerable population who is in need of mental health care. We use the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, providing care that is co-created with the patient to achieve their outcomes, and ensure they are able to reintegrate into the community, in a meaningful way. The successful psychologist will be involved in a range of clinical assessment and intervention, trauma counselling, supporting psychotherapeutic groups with the allied health team, and be provided opportunities to be involved in research. The psychologist will also be part of many inpatient teams, to support the needs of the program via referral, and involved in program wide opportunities to support program development, optimize psychotherapeutic interventions, and provide excellent patient care.



Essential Qualifications

  • Current registration as a Psychologist at the doctoral level with the College of Psychologists of Ontario with the area of practice in Forensic/Correction Psychology, Clinical Psychology for Adult/Senior client population
  • Demonstrated psychological assessment, intervention and program evaluation skills
  • Demonstrated experience with and competence in individual and/or group interventions
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, conducting, administering and interpreting a complete range of psychological assessment techniques
  • Good working knowledge of mental health legislation and privacy legislation
  • Knowledge of program and service evaluation
  • Competence to supervise Psychometrists, Psychology Residents and Students
  • Ability to travel occasionally within the catchment area
  • Demonstrated experience working in a goal oriented, evidence based, and outcome oriented practice
  • Demonstrated superior communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within an interdisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to function independently
  • Demonstrated ability to form and maintain effective partnerships within the community in order to effectively address patient needs.
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Demonstrated strength in written/verbal communication
  • Familiarity with outcome measurement related to clinical practice; ability to measure and evaluate practice change outcomes
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset.
  • Experience working in mental health
  • Familiarity with issues specific to forensic psychology, e.g. criminal responsibility evaluation; violence risk assessment; psychopathy; effort testing; treatment and rehabilitation needs in a forensic population
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Criminal Code as it pertains to psychology and mental health
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
