Salary Range: $35.93 - $41.37 /hour


The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will support the Amputee Rehab Program and the Geriatric Day Hospital (Parkwood Institute Main). Both programs are part of Specialized Geriatric Services.

As a valued member of the interdisciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide Therapeutic Recreation assessment, intervention and program planning on an individual and group basis with an emphasis on community integration, health promotion and enhanced quality of life for the Geriatric Day Hospital and Third Age Outreach Program.



Essential Qualifications

  • University Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a Therapeutic Recreation focus or University Degree in Human Sciences or Services with a Post Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA
  • Current membership with Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario (TRO)
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, and implement a personalized approach to service delivery within the guidelines of the Therapeutic Recreation Service Delivery Model in accordance with TRO standards of practice
  • Clinical expertise and experience in geriatric rehabilitation and demonstrated knowledge of current rehabilitation best practices
  • Experience with facilitating pool exercise programs for seniors
  • Sound understanding of the role of a variety of rehabilitation professionals in the provision of stroke rehabilitation
  • Working knowledge and experience with theories and principles of guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches
  • Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective team member
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and direct support personnel
  • Appreciation of resource utilization and comfortable working in a virtual environment
  • Class F license or ability to obtain within the probationary period
  • Willing to travel throughout Southwestern Ontario
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a therapeutic recreation professional
  • Experience in both hospital and community service delivery
  • Prior experience working with the geriatric population
  • Current registration or eligible for registration with Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario (TRO)

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
