The role of the Central Processing Technician is to process, prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment and supplies for use in the OR and Patient Care Units. To ensure consistent quality patient care, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to process a significant volume (10-15 complex sets; 20-25 non-complex sets and 30-40 extras per shift) of complex sets of instruments and assembled trays with consistent accuracy and attention to detail. The training required will be dependent on the successful applicant's experience.

The Central Processing Department operates 24/4. The position requires prolonged periods of standing, lifting (10kg), bending, pulling and pushing wearing complete personal protective equipment to perform cleaning of instruments in a fast pace environment.



Essential Qualifications

  • Secondary (High) School Diploma
  • Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from an approved accredited community college
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Demonstrated oral, written and reading comprehension and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, assertiveness and positive interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • 2 years Central Processing experience and/or equivalent in a health care environment
  • Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation and Medical terminology
  • Knowledge related to the Basic Principles of Infection Control including Universal Precautions and Aseptic techniques

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
