Reporting to the Program Director and working in conjunction with the Physician Leaders, the Coordinator is accountable to provide dynamic leadership to interdisciplinary teams within the service.

The geriatric psychiatry inpatient units are situated in a purpose built, mental health care facility. The Mental Health Care Program has adopted the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery based model as its overarching philosophical framework with a focus on balancing risk and recovery while caring for body, mind and spirit. The program serves adults over 65 years of age with age related needs who have a primary mental health diagnosis requiring specialized care. The program also serves patients with moderate to severe functional impairment and a primary diagnosis of moderate to severe dementia with related responsive behaviours and other medical and mental health comorbidities.

As part of a regional health care system, the program provides services to a large geographical area within the South West Region. In addition, we are an academic centre with a focus on educating the next generation of health care providers and contributing to research leading to future best practices.

As the successful candidate you will manage service delivery excellence and ensure efficient operations at the unit level. Your success will be evident in your execution and management of day to day operation of our program/service strategy, through ensuring good use of resources and supporting staff to deliver excellence to the people we serve.

The Coordinator provides input and supports the strategic work of the organization. The Coordinator is responsible for organizing and managing daily operations including: staffing & scheduling, budgeting & financial management, performance management, conflict resolution and developing high performing clinical teams by promoting evidence based outcomes within a psychosocial rehabilitation/recovery based model of care in the pursuit of best practices.

As a highly motivated and engaging leader, the Coordinator will demonstrate evidenced based leadership skills, effective communication and exceptional people management skills complimented by strong problem solving and change management expertise.



Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or other health related degree
  • Active member status in the associated College
  • Minimum of three years previous experience in leadership, team building and program development within a mental health care setting
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of legislation related to Employment, People & Financial Management
  • Previous working experience in a Health Care setting and knowledge of legislation inclusive to working in a hospital
  • In addition, the successful candidate will possess strong Leadership capabilities including: Lead Self; Engage Others;

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Evidence of specialized education/training/experience in psychosocial rehabilitation
  • A certificate in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing for applicants with a nursing background

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
