The Lawson Health Research Institute is one of Canada's largest hospital-based research institutes. Lawson is seeking a Research Technician (Cyclotron Engineering Technician) for its Cyclotron & Radiochemistry Facility in London, Ontario.
The successful candidate will become a key part of a research/clinical team in a hospital environment. The main duties include (i) basic maintenance and calibration of the cyclotron and other radiochemistry equipment and (ii) back-up support for routine production of radioisotopes.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain the cyclotron and other radiochemistry equipment under a quality management system to safely meet production and research needs
- Provide emergency trouble-shooting and repairs of cyclotron and radiochemistry equipment
- Assist the Engineer in the preventive maintenance and calibration of critical facility equipment
- Participate in the routine production, packaging and shipping of radioisotopes as a back-up to our team of radiochemistry technicians
- Provide periodic backup coverage to the Production Manager for customer order taking, production planning and courier logistics
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory commitments including GMP, radiation safety, corporate policies and procedures
- Apply CNSC rules, regulations and procedures to ensure that professional and safe working practices are followed at all times
Primary working hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with expectation to periodically work 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. for training and backup coverage. It should be understood that the hours of work will reflect production requirements for radioisotopes and are subject to change.
Essential Qualifications
- Technician or Technologist Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering (or suitable equivalent)
- Candidate must consent to gaining a sound understanding of radiological safety procedures and working as a Nuclear Energy Worker in a safe, but radioactive environment
Preferred Qualifications- 3+ years’ experience with equipment operation and hands-on repair and maintenance or equipment in a production environment
- Strong, analytical trouble-shooting skills and a “hands-on” approach to problem solving
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of CNSC regulations and Health Canada GMP would be an asset
- Experience with Vacuum Systems, Pneumatics, RF, High Voltage/Current Supplies, Analogue/Digital Circuits and Controls Systems would be an advantage
- Proficiency in French would be an asset

Immunization Requirements- :
- Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and a written commitment to follow any

- management in the workplace.
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
