Reporting to the Vice President, Patient Care and Risk Management, the Director of Complex and Palliative Care is responsible for the strategic oversight and continued development of the program including quality, workforce and financial planning. The program consists of accountability for three inpatient units, the Palliative Pain & Symptom Management program, Wound Care services, and Respiratory Therapy at Parkwood Institute. The medically complex inpatient units provide care to patients requiring ongoing medical management as well as rehabilitation following a major medical event, accident or illness with a goal to facilitate return to the community. The palliative care unit provides pain and symptom management and end of life care for individuals with a life limiting illness. The Palliative Pain & Symptom Management program services Southwestern Ontario and supports systemic capacity building initiatives in the application of best practices in palliative care. This team works with all health care professionals across all sectors providing education, consultation and systems navigation.

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional skills in strategic planning, change leadership and program development. The ability to foster strong partnerships and collaborate with key stakeholders to foster service delivery, clinical and systemic capacity building, education and research activities is required. They are a leader who can collaboratively build a vision and deliver on system transformation and leadership across multiple sectors and funding sources. You have personal attributes and a leadership style that effectively role models a faith-based mission of caring to our patients/residents, families and our staff.

Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will lead with courage, compassion and integrity. They will have a deep understanding of the health care system, in particular the post-acute, complex and rehabilitation sectors. This knowledge should include a strong awareness of drivers such as quality-based care standards, provincial and federal legislative requirements and emerging innovations in post-acute care. This role has a strong focus on delivering outcomes that enhance safe, high quality patient care in partnership with patients/residents and caregivers. Further, the successful applicant will demonstrate proven capacity in coaching and developing others, verbal and written communication, responsible fiscal and human resource planning and the use of evidenced based decision making.

They will have achieved, at minimum, a Master's Degree in a health-related field and have a strong clinical background. A minimum of 5 years progressive health care leadership experience is required. Proven experience in leading and facilitating transformational change including program development and implementation in collaboration with system partners, patients/residents & families is required. The successful applicant will possess Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA, ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification with the Canadian College of Health Leaders as a Certified Health Executive (CHE)
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset

  • St. Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St. Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and a written commitment to follow any future Public Health recommendations and St. Joseph's Health Care London policies and processes related to Covid management in the workplace
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
