Exciting opportunity to join the Human Resources team at St. Joseph's Health Care London. As the Payroll team lead, you will be responsible for providing day to day leadership and guidance regarding payroll services to the payroll staff within Human Resources, the broader Human Resources team and customers. Your well-developed understanding and experience in payroll legislation, payroll systems and payroll services is critical to your success in this role. Taking a hands-on approach you have highly effective organizational skills that augment your ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Your exceptional customer service focus combined with a strong sense of urgency allows you to meet or exceed critical deadlines. Your highly effective analytical skills within a complex payroll environment and success in problem solving are supported by proficiency in payroll accounting and reporting.
The primary duties of this role include:
Lead/coach payroll staff in completing day to day operational tasks
Support broader HR team with expertise related to payroll legislation and compliance, audit and controls, HR technology and administrative best practices
Act as the key liaison with the third-party payroll provider to ensure service standards and contract details are adhered to
Continually champion process improvement initiatives through research and design of best practices promoting excellent customer service and process efficiencies. Develop, recommend and lead the implementation of these initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
Contribute to major technology enhancement projects such as implementation of new modules and system upgrades acting as a key project lead



Essential Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Graduate of a recognized undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or a related field
  • 3-5 years payroll administration in a complex, multi-union, public sector environment encompassing a broad range of payroll, pension and benefit functions
  • Previous experience providing day to day leadership and coaching. Ability to plan, delegate, organize and manage the work of self and others
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and provincial legislation and payroll compliance requirements (ie. Ontario Pension and Benefit Act, Employment Standards Act, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of HR and Payroll software applications
  • Previous System Administrator experience with complex payroll and time and attendance systems
  • Demonstrated skills in the upgrade or implementation of HR technology
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience in implementing collective agreement changes
  • Committed to principles of confidentiality
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Canadian Payroll Association courses/certification
  • Experience working in a hospital environment
Teaching and Research
  • St Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine or proof of one dose and a signed commitment to receive a second dose within a specified timeframe, and a written commitment to follow any future Public Health recommendations and St. Joseph's Health Care London policies and processes related to Covid management in the workplace
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
