Registered Nurse, PACU - 2 positions

Regular Part Time

The Post Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU) at the St Joseph's Hospital site is a 16 bay unit providing recovery following surgery for our ophthalmology, urology, upper limb orthopedics, plastics, ENT and interventional radiology populations. In addition to providing post-surgery care, the PACU supports Step-Up capacity for inpatients requiring a higher level of care and the PACU nurses are members of the Medical Emergency Response Team for the facility. The PACU provides care to our inpatients on weekends. The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse with adult critical care experience. This may include labour/ delivery room, emergency department, CCU/ CCU (cardiac care.), strong surgical experience and/or direct PACU (recovery room) experience. The successful candidate will have excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills and thrive as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Essential Qualifications

  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Adult critical care experience (PACU, ICU, CCU or Emergency)
  • E.C.G. interpretation,
  • Valid A.C.L.S certification
  • Proficiency and experience Venipuncture and IV starts
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA
  • Experience with arterial lines
  • Experience with Patient Controlled Analgesia pumps, regional blocks and epidural infusions
  • Excellent decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated effective collaborative, interpersonal and communication skills as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Self-directed individual with leadership abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • B.Sc.N.
  • One (1) year of recent P.A.C.U. experience
  • Surgical Nursing experience

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
